Valentine’s Day Predicted Spending Trends

Are You Prepared For Valentines?

Valentine’s Day has traditionally been one of the biggest gift-giving holidays of the year, and this year’s consumer spending appears to be following the trend, but on a slightly smaller scale. Conscientious consumers will be looking for both price and value when they treat their friends and loved ones to something special to show their affection on this sentimental day.

According to National Retail Federation’s 2013 Valentine’s Day Spending Survey conducted by BIGinsight, only a slight increase is expected in sales this year. Total spending will reach $18.6 billion, with the average person spending approximately $130.97, but still an increase from last year’s $126.03.

Online shopping and comparison shopping for both traditional and non-traditional gifts will again be large factors in consumer spending. The survey concluded that 26.3% of those celebrating the holiday will buy gifts for their loved ones online.  In addition, 40.7% of smartphone owners and 46.9% of tablet owners will be researching and buying their Valentine’s Day gifts with these devices.
