Five Reason Why You Should Upgrade To NCR Counterpoint
1. Version 7.5.XX – On-going improvements and support is ending.
With the final release of CounterPoint 7.5, (Release 7.5.120), other than maintenance service packs, NCR no longer plans to add any new features to CounterPoint 7.5. This means that while the software is still usable and viable, it now has a timed life expectancy.
Currently, NCR plans to continue providing supporting CounterPoint version 7.5 for the next 2 – 3 years. This may change, however, this current situation gives you time plan a conversion to NCR Counterpoint, the MS SQL version of CounterPoint.
2. Ease of use – While NCR counterpoint is easier to user than CounterPoint version 7.5.XX, parts of it similarly designed and arranged, and has many similar features. This also reduces the amount of training time required for staff to use new software.
3. Increased History Retained – One complaint regarding CounterPoint version 7.5 was that the programming language in use has a 2GB data file size limitation built in. Often for large companies, this required purging of historical data files, frequently, and more often that what might be desired. This restricted the number of years of historical data that you could retain in certain history files. The larger the company, and the larger the transaction vlome the greater the issue.
In NCR CounterPoint, the database size is only limited by the version of MS SQL installed as follows:
MS SQL 2008 Server Size
Database File Size Limit 16TB
MS SQL 2008 Express (SSE) Size
Database File Size Limit 10GB
As you can see with the MS SQL Server 2008 Express version, most smaller businesses it would likely take more than several years to exceed the file size limitation. With MS SQL Server 2008, larger retailers or multi-store chains would not need to purge data for many, many years.
4. Data Migration Tools – NCR CounterPoint has built-in tools available for migrating your existing CounterPoint 7.5.XX data files. This means that you don’t lose historical data. However, during the migration process, purging of data is an available option.
This also means that your tome and costs for the migration process would be greatly reduced over what custom programming and migration help would cost if you were to migrate to other systems.
5. Competitive Upgrade Pricing – Radiant has some very competitive software upgrade rates for existing CounterPoint users. Please contact the CCS Sales Department for more information on upgrade pricing.
