Price Promotion Replication Tips
If you are using Counterpoint SQL, in a multi-site environment, it pays to spend some time in advance planning such things as your price promotions.
The reason is, that once you setup your promotions at the hub, they need to have time to replicate to the stores. After setting up your price promotion at the hub, the information will be sent to the stores, the next time that the store replicates with the hub. If you have replication set to go several times a day, it should be no problem to setup a special price promotion at 2:00 in the afternoon, to start the next day, right? That will work as long as there are no problems with the data replicating.
It can happen that the data being replicated to a site gets out of sync, and the replication aborts. If that happens at a point before the pricing information is sent and the store does not have the information for the special pricing.
When replication data gets out of sync between the hub and a store, it can take some time to isolate and correct the offending data. In the mean time, you could have some stores selling at your promotional price, and others selling at the regular price.
For things like special pricing promotions that can be scheduled in advance, it pays to set them up a few days ahead of time. If, for example, you are having a weekend sale, you can set the sale pricing up first of the week, instead of waiting until Friday afternoon. That way, if any issues arise with your replication, you have a few days to get them cleared up.
