Store Environment Is Important

Pleasant Surroundings Attract Customers
Have you ever arrived at a restaurant that you thought you might enjoy patronizing, only to turn away when you noticed that the windows and glass doors were covered with dirty fingerprints? This has happened to me on more than one occasion. The thought that runs through my mind is this: “If the windows and doors are dirty, do the employees care about sanitation in regard to the food they serve?”
Sometimes retailers get so caught up with day-to-day activities that they fail to notice some of the little things that customers notice right away. Burned out light bulbs, too-worn carpeting, dust on display shelves, dead flies on window sills, spots on lobby chairs—all these things create a negative impression of your business.
If you wonder what impression your business makes on customers, give it a test. Look around your store with objective eyes. Then ask a neighbor, a good friend, or even your mother (moms know everything about cleanliness!) to visit your store. Ask them to tell you candidly if your space makes them feel comfortable, or if it makes them want to rush out and wash their hands!
If you get a negative response, get out the spray cleaner, duster, vacuum cleaner and furniture polish and get to work! Sometimes a little fresh paint will do wonders to brighten up a place. Create an environment that makes customers feel relaxed so they will want to linger and buy.
While you’re at it, now would be a good time to clean up your computer. Blow out the dust, clean your monitor screen, keyboard and mouse. Delete some of those old files that slow your system down. If you need help with this, give us a call at 425-672-4806 or email us before you begin to delete anything—we know how to do it the right way!
Once you have improved the environment, don’t be surprised if your sales improve also! You’ll be amazed at the results of your effort!
