Don’t Neglect the Little Things!

Details Are Important

Years ago there was a popular song titled “Little Things Mean a Lot.” The lyrics were meant to explain how relationships could be built on small, considerate actions. Not surprisingly, businesses can be built in much the same way.

A little thing, like the kind of music you have on your phone system for people on hold, can make a big difference in the way your company is perceived by your customers. Think about it! If you are sick and waiting on hold to speak with your doctor, do you want to hear loud, heavy metal music?

A clear, concise message on your voice mail gives your customer information needed to do business with you. Your location and store hours, and perhaps answers to a few common questions that customers frequently ask would be appropriate. You might also include a short message—a new product that just came in, for example, or a funny quotation. Just remember to keep it short to allow customers to leave a message for you if they choose to do so.

Your email signature is another little detail that can make a big impression on customers. If you don’t have one, you should create one. It shows courtesy and professionalism and is a great marketing tool. You’ll need to show your complete contact information—name, company, address, telephone number, fax number and email address. Use your real name or the store name on your email address, not your personal address that you would use on casual correspondence.

In your store, take a look at little things like the appearance of your labels and customer receipts. Are they easy to read and have enough information on them? I get frustrated when my receipts don’t show the date of the purchase. This happens frequently, and makes it difficult for me to record spending accurately in my check register.

At CCS, we can help you change some of those “little things” that mean so much to your business. If you would like to make changes to those labels or receipts or countless other POS software-related changes, we’re here to help. Call us at 425-672-4806 or email us today.
