Easter Sales Predictions

Get Set For Great Holiday Sales

Americans apparently have a “sweet tooth!” Easter sales predictions from National Retail Federation’s BIGsight Survey show that Americans will spend an average of $145.28 this year, and a large percentage of that will be spent on candy. Who can resist those chocolate bunnies, Peeps, jelly beans, and decorated candy eggs, anyway? For kids, no Easter would be complete without them!

Even though the economy is still shaky and gas prices are outrageously out of control, people are still willing to stretch their budgets to buy not only candy, but apparel, special foods, and decorations for the upcoming holiday. Unseasonably warm weather in many parts of the country is expected to give a boost to sales.

Total spending is expected to reach an incredible $16.8 billion. The average consumer will spend $145.28, up 11% from last year’s $131.04. Discount stores will see the most shopping traffic, but department store sales are expected to be at the highest percentage level in the survey’s history. Online sales will experience the greatest jump in traffic this year, with nearly two in five (18.7% of shoppers) purchasing online, many using mobile devices to check out prices, locate stores, and research products.
