Retailers May Get Lucky on St. Patrick’s Day

Increased Consumer Spending Expected on St. Patrick’s Day.

What a difference a day can make! Since St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, chances are that consumers will spend more, not only on partying, but on such things as warm weather clothing and gardening supplies. Spring-like weather is already occurring in many parts of the country, so the needs are there, and consumers will have more non-workday time to take care of the needs.

BIGinsights St. Patrick’s Day Spending Survey reports that 54.4% of consumers plan to celebrate this Irish holiday. That’s the highest number in the survey’s nine-year history.

What will you be selling this year–green beverages, corned beef and cabbage, a shamrock pin, a leprechaun hat, or green-colored accessories for a novel dining room table? Or will it be a green-embellished flower arrangement for a favorite Irish friend or relative? Purchases per person this year will average about $35, for a staggering total of $4.6 billion for the holiday!

Don’t forget that many of the purchases and sales will be made by use of mobile devices. Are you prepared to receive your share of sales from this great technology? CounterPoint’s CPMobile will allow you to sell anywhere—not just from behind a counter. Go where your customers are, whether it’s around your store, at an event, or out in the street. Accept payments, email or print receipts, look up items, and provide exceptional customer service with the power of POS in the palm of your hand.
