I’ve always been a coupon user. I use coupons from the newspapers, telephone directories, flyers, grocery stores, restaurants, online stores, car dealerships, beauty shops—wherever I can find them! I admit that it takes a little time to keep them organized, but it does save money, lots of money!
I have always felt a little uncomfortable when I redeem coupons. Coupons are for poor people, right? Who wants to advertise that pinching pennies is a necessity to keep the budget under control?
It turns out that I am a part of a very elite group! Well-off and well-coiffed adults use coupons more, according to new research from Harris Interactive on behalf of Coupons.com. Here are some other things you may not know about coupon users:
They are more affluent – 6 out of 10 adults with an annual household income of $100,000 or more have used a coupon in the last 6 months.
They are more educated – Adults with college degrees are almost twice as likely to have used coupons in the past 6 months as adults who didn’t graduate from high school. They also search more often for coupons online.
They are more metropolitan – More than 3 in 4 adults who have used coupons in the last 6 months live in cities.
They are equally divided between men and women – Not only that, but a third of the men (like women) have a designated place to keep their coupons, and 18% tell their male friends of a coupon deal they found on the Internet!
Surprising? I don’t think so. Saving money is always a smart thing to do. So what are you doing in your business to bring people into your store by promoting coupons?
