Proper Planning For a Credit Card Processor Change

Proper Planning For a Credit Card Processor Change

Here are some things that you should be prepared to address in advance of a Credit Card configuration change.

  1. If you are switching to a non-preferred Credit Card processor, your software may require a version update, a registration change, and a run-time update.
  2. Do you have all of the complete and proper merchant data and configuration information in advance?
  3. As a general rule, 90 – 95 percent of all problems with a Credit Card Processor changes fall into the following areas:

Timing for this change is critical.  It is best to make these changes between Tuesday and Thursday of any given week.  Monday’s are bad because banks are dealing with the weekend related fallout. Fridays are bad because key bank employees leave early for the weekend.  Most technical staff working on the weekends are likely to be the least knowledgeable,or competent. They may not be able to help you with critical configuration, authorization or settlement issues.
