Halloween Won’t be Spooky for Retailers
Good news is out from National Retail Federation! Their 2012 Halloween Consumer Spending Survey, conducted by BIGinsight, predicts a record 170 million people plan to celebrate Halloween this year. The number of people expected to spend money on this holiday is up from 68.6 percent last year to 71.5 percent this year. Consumers will also spend more, averaging $79.82 per person, up from last year’s $72.31. Total holiday spending is expected to reach $8.0 billion.
Dressing up in costumes, decorating the house and yard, trick-or-treating, having a party or even dressing up a pet in spooky gear will motivate consumers to buy for the event. Not surprisingly, political masks are expected to be popular in this election year, also. It appears that there is pent-up desire in many people for having fun this year, and they’re ready to spend some of their hard-earned money to make it happen.
