How to Reboot Your Computer System Properly.

Occasionally you may be asked by our support department to reboot your computer system.  Believe it or not there is a proper order that this should be done.  If done incorrectly you may not be able to gain access to your application or shared resources.

The proper order should be:
1. Shutdown (not restart) the Workstations.
2. Shutdown the Server.
3. If asked to power-cycle (or turn off and back on) your router or switches/Hub this should be done after the Server has been shutdown and before it is started back up
4. If the router and switches were power-cycled, be sure they have completely powered back up before the next step.
5. Power back on the Server and be sure it is completely "Up"
6. After the Server has finished booting up you can start powering up the Workstations in any order.

If you change the order of these steps you may run in to problems with your applications not running properly.  For example in CPSQL Version 8, you may experience CounterPoint trying to run in "Demo Mode". This is can be because the Workstation can not connect to the Server to access the SQL Database, or there is a network connection that can not be made.  If this occurs, follow the steps above.

In CounterPoint Version 7, you would more than likely get an error message stating that "CounterPoint could not create the SYSLKC file".  The cause is pretty much the same as in CPSQL V8 and has the resolution.

If you are having problems with your computer system, or need some advise on troubleshooting a network connection problem, send me an email or call the CCS Retail Systems Support Department at 800-672-4806.

Have a Good Weekend
